The London Cobra Show takes personal pride in the dramatic improvement in the health of all children with cystic fibrosis (CF), especially so with Jenny Smith and Emily Kerr. Shown in the photograph, is Jenny, the daughter of Dave Smith, owner of Factory Five Racing, a manufacturer of Cobra replicas. Jenny, having been diagnosed at an early age with CF, is the reason that our London Cobra Show donations have always been remitted to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for use in researching and developing CF medicines. Emily is the young lady that has, most years, reached into the ticket tumbler, pulling out the winning raffle ticket, making someone a very happy Cobra owner.
Jenny is now doing well and is benefiting from ORKAMBI, a new CF medicine approved by the FDA in 2015. The medicine ORKAMBI is similar to the KALYDECO medicine that Emily has done so well with. ORKAMBI and KALYDECO are both produced by Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where Jenny recently toured their facility. Her older sister Nicole made the tour arrangements for her. Nicole having graduated from Babson College this past spring is now working in the finance department at Vertex in Boston, MA.
Jenny graduated this year from Barrington High School in Rhode Island and is heading to Saint Anselms College in Manchester, NH where she will be an entering freshman. Jenny spent the summer working at Factory Five Racing, traveling to Michigan and hiking in Maine with her eagle-scout boyfriend.
Emily is a local resident of the Columbus, OH area. Cystic fibrosis had seriously challenged Emily, until 2012 - when, at age 15, she began taking the newly approved CF drug - KALYDECO. This drug virtually stopped the progression of the disease and has allowed Emily to become much more active in her daily life. She is presently enrolled, as a junior, at the University of Dayton (Ohio) where she is a Cheerleader.
Past donations have helped fund research and development of both KALYDECO and ORKAMBI. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is committed to finding a cure for CF within our lifetime. We hope our 2018 donation will assist the Foundation in meeting that objective.
We wanted to let you know how past donations to CF are now helping to improve the lives of individuals with CF.
Thank you for your continued support of the London Cobra Show and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
